Paediatrics - Children's Feet

Libby Jones Podiatry has a special interest in children’s podiatry and provides diagnosis, treatment and management of problems of the foot and ankle in infants and children.

From a baby’s first steps to toddler’s ballet concert or a teenager’s winning goal kick, healthy feet are the foundation of your child’s life. Starting at birth, it’s important to pay close attention to your child’s feet.

Children's feet are soft and pliable and can be prone to damage. A podiatry check up is recommended if you notice uneven shoe wear, any skin rashes, hard skin or lumps and bumps. Complaining of recurrent pains in their legs and feet or constant tripping and falling also warrants an assessment.

Some of the common conditions seen in children include:

  • In-toeing (pigeon toeing)

  • Flat foot

  • Ingrown nails

  • Warts

  • Heel pain (Sever’s Disease)

  • Knee pain (Osgood Schlatter’s disease)

  • Accessory bones

  • Osteochondroses

  • Tarsal coalitions

  • Metatarsus Adductus

  • Club foot

  • Juvenile arthritis

  • Bunions

  • Toe walking

  • Curly toes

  • Knock knees

  • Clumsiness

  • Sprained ankle

Libby Jones Podiatry can assist with soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation exercises, footwear suggestions or just the reassurance that your child’s feet are functioning normally. Custom orthotics are also available when needed.
